Introducing my new mailing list! Every single thing I’ve read about marketing art AND writing has emphasized the importance of one of these dang things. So I guess this is me trying it out! Of course it’s completely free to subscribe, and you can block/unsubscribe from my annoying butt at any time you’d like!
What will be in these emails? Well, I’m offering the first chapters of TWO of my works in progress for members of my mailing list!
First work in progress: “The Tallfellows”
This is the first book in my YA epic fantasy series based on my Dungeons and Dragons adventures! At 165,000 words drafted and many many thousands more in outlines, it’s my most “complete” work. As it stands, I’m planning on at least six books. But we’ll see what happens.
Anyway, here’s the pitch!
Take the Shire, but make it coastal with South American vibes.
Then take a family of halflings and give them a baby orc to raise as their own.
Take that orc and his halfling sisters and give them a gnome best friend.
Take all those kids and orphan them during a violent invasion by a mysterious shadow army.
Let those kids escape, and find a fragile new life up north.
But the shadow never stops growing.
Now take those kids, and make them fight back.
…Also the orc carries his sisters around in a halfling backpack.
“The Tallfellows” is a coming of age, sword and sorcery adventure with themes of hope against oppressive evil, the strength of small things, and the power of family bonds.
Intended for young adult/early adult audiences who enjoy third person character driven ‘found family’ multi-pov stories like “Dragonlance” (large ensemble, 3rd person POVs), “The Stormlight Archive” (multi POVs, flashbacks), and Critical Role adventures like “The Legend of Vox Machina” and “The Mighty Nein” (dungeons and dragons inspired world and characters).
Now for the second work in progress: “Under the Frosted Spotlights”
This is the first public place I’ve ever talked about this one! It’s my feel-good escape for when Tallfellows gets too dark!
“Under the Frosted Spotlights” is a cozy, seasonal romantasy (LOW SPICE. Sorry people, I refuse to take jobs from the hardworking fanfiction community!) featuring a young half elven noblewoman on the run from her icy family. She falls in with a traveling theatre troupe and finds her voice and her own heart along the way. For lovers of “Legends and Lattes” and “Swordheart”.
It’s completely outlined but only about 25% drafted. I’ll be seeking beta readers for the first draft soon! Get on that mailing list for updates on that.
I hope to see you all there.
Love,
Lauren
