About

Lauren Chaney was born in Arizona, raised in Central Indiana, and now resides in a small town in Eastern Oregon. At each stage in her life, and in every place that she lived, art played a central part to her growth as a person. After exploring art in a a variety of styles and mediums in her High School years, Lauren decided to go on to pursue a degree in illustration at Brigham Young University. While attending university she gained skills and perspective that would greatly aid her in her future path, a path independent of institutionalized learning. After suffering a severe mental health crisis in 2013, she chose to leave the university setting in favor of being nearer to her family to recover. It was there that she met the love of her life and chose the path of beginning her family instead of returning to finish her education. Lauren now enjoys a quiet life in Baker City with her husband, her two children, and the family dogs and cat. Her day to day work focuses on the beautiful chaos of raising two young children and running a household. Though she never stopped creating art, she has found a new sense of passion and dedication to her art as her children now rely on her less for their daily needs.

Her current work reflects the chaos of her daily routine. Smears of paint are often squeezed in between snacks and cuddles, and she is frequently interrupted mid brushstroke to diffuse an argument or to kiss a boo boo. Lauren’s most focused work only occurs in the quiet hours of the night when the children are sleeping. With all of that said, her present style is bold, quick, and decisive. With limited painting time, she has to seize the moments she is afforded and seize them swiftly! She is attracted to bright, loud colors, and loves exploring new and unique ways to apply mediums to canvas.

Lauren is represented at the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City, OR
